It all started
with a gift

Almost 50 years ago two sisters, Ethel Clark and Maud Lindsey, after seeing the great need for housing for older adults, gave their money to start ClarkLindsey. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit we continue to honor their legacy of giving.

Make a difference in our Community

As we've grown over the years, we now offer more ways to make a difference in the lives of older adults. From our home and community-based care to the original ClarkLindsey campus in Urbana, IL we are excited to be able to offer you more ways to give back.

Make an Exceptional Community
Even Better

Our goal is to support our core value of having a meaningful life for older adults through our multi-dimensional programs that nurture the mind, body and spirit. With generous support from our donors, we also offer residents the assurance of knowing they have lifelong access to living arrangements and services should they outlive their financial resources.

Lindsey Communities Funds

At ClarkLindsey, philanthropy plays a meaningful role in shaping a vibrant, compassionate community. Through the generosity of residents and friends, we are able to invest in the well-being of those who live, work, and receive care here, today and for generations to come. This year, we invite you to consider supporting the areas that matter most, by highlighting the following funds.

Kaulfers Fund

A legacy of generosity continues to enhance quality of life at ClarkLindsey. Named in honor of resident Walter Kaulfers, whose transformative estate gift established this endowment, the Kaulfers Fund supports initiatives that enrich daily life across the community. Over time, it has funded enhancements that strengthen engagement, wellness, and connection for residents.

What your gift makes possible:

Your gift helps sustain and expand programs and experiences that enrich community life, supporting opportunities for engagement, connection, and well-being for current and future residents. Most recently, this fund supported several of our 2025 Resident Programming grants.

Jean Stout Career Advancement Fund

This fund, started by a gift from former resident Jean Stout, supports the education and professional development of Lindsey Communities’ team members, helping remove barriers to continued learning. Resources may be used for tuition, certifications, training programs, and related expenses.

What your gift makes possible:

Your gift helps team members pursue education and career advancement. This strengthens the quality of care, building expertise, and supporting those who serve residents every day. Most recently, these funds were used to support an employee pursuing an MBA, in addition to employees receiving vocational training for their frontline work at CL.

Employee Assistance Fund

Providing support in times of unexpected need, the Employee Assistance Fund started with a gift from a ClarkLindsey administrator. It offers short-term financial relief to team members experiencing hardship or crisis. By helping employees navigate difficult moments, this fund supports their well-being and stability.

What your gift makes possible:

Your gift helps provide timely, compassionate support to employees when they need it most, ensuring they can continue to care for themselves and others. Most recently, this fund supported a long-time staff member experiencing a sudden death in the family.

Activity Center Renovation

Our first-floor Activity Center continues to be at the heart of meaningful life at ClarkLindsey. Whether through musical performances, educational presentations, or our monthly Resident Council, it serves as the host of gathering our residents to make ClarkLindsey your home. A gift to this fund will support new interior finishes, a state-of-the-art technology and sound system, entrance into the adjacent courtyard and more.

Lindsey Life Scholarship & Support Fund

Expanding access to care and connection beyond our campus, this fund supports Lindsey Life services, including adult day and at-home care programs that serve older adults in the broader community. These programs provide meaningful engagement for participants and essential support for caregivers.

What your gift makes possible:

Your gift helps make high-quality, accessible care available to more individuals and families, enhancing lives, reducing isolation, and supporting caregivers throughout our community. In 2025, Lindsey Life provided over $100,000 in scholarship support and is on track to provide over $75,000 in 2026.

Anne & Bill Heiles Arts Fund

This fund, our newest at ClarkLindsey, was created by residents Anne and Bill Heiles to enhance arts programming for our residents across campus. A gift to grow this fund will increase the arts offering, both in performance and participation, at ClarkLindsey.

Unrestricted

Unrestricted gifts allow your ClarkLindsey leadership team to put funds towards our greatest current needs.

What your gift makes possible:

Recent unrestricted gifts have been used to purchase wellness equipment, provide training and support for staff education and retention, and enhance campus grounds.
